June 10, 2010  |  Vol. 6, No. 6

Hello Friends!

I hope everyone is doing fine and getting a chance to ride. I apologize for being a few days late in getting this to you, but there is so much going on. We had a good time riding in YBarH's customer appreciation day/trail ride at Hillsdale Lake near Paola, KS this weekend. Our son, Matthew, got a new horse, and it is working out just great. To see Matthew, Brent, and all of their friends having so much fun just riding and actually swimming off their horses, it doesn't get much better than that.

If you are anywhere near Topeka, Kansas this weekend, don't miss the Dancin' In The Dirt, June 11,12, &13th, at the Kansas ExpoCentre in Domer Arena. Riding Clinics, UHCA Obstacle Racing Event, & Saturday nights Dancin In The Dirt Spectacular. Plus, on Sunday between the Amateur and Open Events, yours truly along with my cohost, Dawn Dawson, and 94.5 Radio Personality, Rusty Walker, will be competing in the Celebrity Challenge. I am counting on my coach, Teresa Anderson, to get me through this. To find out more about this weekend, go to www.ultimatehca.com for schedule and details.

Don't miss the Purina Mills/KSU HOW Event and Open House next Saturday, June 19th, at the KSU Veterinary Hospital. Registration will begin at 9:00 am at the Vet School in the Equine area. After tours of the Equine Hospital and educational seminars, we will have a complimentary lunch at the Animal Science departments Equine Unit just west of the Vet School. For information click here to see the flyer.

Better Horses has branched out and has launched a new website for all of you roping enthusiasts. Under the leadership of the great horseman, roper, and friend Jim Holland, www.ropinghorseworld.com is the place to go to buy and sell roping horses. You will also get the latest on where events and clinics are being held.

Make sure you tune in every weekend to listen to Better Horses Radio. Go to our website www.betterhorsesradio.com to find out where the closest station is to you. Or just pick one and listen to them via internet. Better Horses Radio is excited to have the opportunity to take our Better Horses Road Show to the Dodge City PRCA Rodeo in August. If you can come out and join us Aug.4th thru 8th.

Our new Purina Feeds brought to us by our tremendous Research Team are going great since being launched this spring. Whether it is our New Ultium Growth or Strategy Healthy Edge you can sign up to give them a try by going to www.purinadifference.com.
The results we are seeing are tremendous.

You can receive it by mail by subscribing or pick it up at your nearest participating Purina Dealer, Western Store, or Vet Clinic. You can subscribe by going to www.betterhorsesnetwork.com.

I hope to run into you this summer; and if I can be of  help, don't hesitate to get in touch with me by emailing me at ernie@betterhorsesradio.com or calling me at 785/418-6047.

Horse Management Tip

Just Let Them Ride!

I have been guilty of some of the following orders: "Get off of his face";  "You are in the wrong lead" "Make sure you have the reins even".   Etc., Etc..

What I have found out with my two boys, Brent and Matt, is just let them ride and have fun. Riding bareback, Tag with their horses, swimming off the back of their horses, riding in the wrong lead, etc., etc.

The important thing is they are having fun!

That is what it is all about.

Ernie

Horsey Treat Recipe

Celebrate the summer by giving your favorite horse a special treat.  Try this recipe called:

J Friskie Summer Delight

In a big bowl, mix:
6 cups bran
2 cups oatmeal
2 cups cracked corn
4-6 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 tblsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 eggs
16 oz. sweetened apple juice
2/3 cup molasses
6 tblsp. corn oil

Then just roll the dough into one- or two-inch balls and bake at 300o for 25 minutes or until they are dry and crisp.
(The dough is very sticky -- it helps to dip your hands in water periodically while handling it.)    1

Thoughts To Ponder

                       By Charley Green

Standing to the Challenge

It gets tough at times to draw on our inner courage to stand and face many of life's challenges that come our way.  However, face them we must, or that snake's going to bite us!

Courage also means making good choices; to choose when to stand, when to walk away and when to Cowboy Up to one's responsibilities.

John Wayne may have said it best:

"Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway.
