Volume 5, Number 1
| Hello, Friends! |
![]() |
I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. It was great around the Rodina household, having the opportunity to spend time with the kids and getting caught up with some of the end of the year stuff. I know one thing for sure if they had a "rate of gain" competition for humans like they do calves, I had to win it. Was doing fine until the family received "The Chocolate Tower" from a good friend. Planning on whipping it, however -- got two days of walking in this past weekend.
We are working on putting together our 2009 Stallion Edition. If you are interested in running an ad, make sure you call Connie at 785/418-2615 or you can call me at 785/418-6047 or e-mail me at ernest_rodina@purina-mills.com . Also, we are going to have a Stallion Showcase with this newsletter. Get in touch with me for a rate to run your stallion or stallions thru May of 2009. This electronic newsletter reaches 9500+ horse owners every first and third Monday of the month.
Make sure you plan to attend our 6th Annual Horseman's Priority Conference this Feb. 6th & 7th at the beautiful Ransomed Heart Ranch near Lone Jack, MO. Updated schedule of clinicians and speakers are:
Richard Shrake - "Resistance-Free Training"
Brent Wright -- "Applying Reining Horse Principles to Achieve The Broke Horse"
Nick O'Dell - NCHA Cutting Horse Trainer
Dawn Dawson - NBHA Trainer & Exhibitor"
Cindy Branham - "Mustang Makeover Clinician"
Geff Dawson - Cowboy Poet
Allyn Mann - Adequan - Sound Joint Care
Dr. Fred Gardner - Equine Health
Information is inside this newsletter. Don't miss this great
weekend of equine clinicians and fellowship.
Also on Sunday, Feb.8th, Richard Shrake will be conducting a special
clinic for riders and auditors. For information about this clinic call Terri
DeLouche at 660/441-1697.
Kansas Equifest is just around the corner in Wichita, Kansas. Plan to attend Feb.13th, 14th, & 15th. This is always a great event to attend. Craig Cameron and his Extreme Cowboy Race is a featured event this year.
Late Winter and Spring always mean Purina Horse Owner Workshops. A couple of
events that are coming together are the following:
March 22nd: Winding
River Girl Scout Camp & Equestrian Center-HOW Workshop and Open House: located
near Trimble, MO;
Kerry Kuhn - Trail Horse Clinic; Cindy Branham-Mustang Savvy. WATCH FOR DETAILS
March 27th,
28th, & 29th - Lone Wolf Ranch Arena & Training
Center/Cleveland MO;
Curt & Tammy Pate- Low Stress Cattle Handling/Riding Clinic -- Great Weekend!
Beautiful New Facility.
WATCH FOR DETAILS!
Purina Mills will be launching some new exciting products this spring. We are getting all kinds of great reports on the results of feeding the Purina Program. I would love to have the opportunity to work with you. What differentiates Purina from all the rest is their Research. When looking at performance and cost per head per day, Purina Mills is second to none. Let us know if we can get you to take the Purina Challenge.
I am really looking forward to 2009. Remember our goal with Better Horses Network is to "Take Your Horse Experience To A Higher Level." If there is anything we can do for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Happy Trails!
Ernie

Horse Management Tip
Ask Your Horse -- Don't Demand It
By Ernie Rodina
Yesterday, as I was going over my normal ritual of watching RFD-TV Horse
programs on Sunday morning, I picked up the Ken McNabb show. What he said
yesterday morning is consistent with many of the great trainers, and that is to
"ask your horse -- don't force them." Also, when asking your horse for a
maneuver, make it easy for the horse to find the answer.
This is so much in contrast of how we did it when we were younger and that is by
demanding or forcing a horse to do a maneuver.
How lucky we are today to have the resources to become a better horseman.

Passion

It's when you look in the mirror in the morning and the
person looking back at you has a dream, a plan and is chomping at the bit to conquer Hell with a five-gallon bucket of water . . . then you know it's going to be a great day -- because that's passion in action! |
