Volume 4, Number 23

Hello, Friends!

I hope all of you had a good and Happy Thanksgiving Holiday. Since talking to you last I had the opportunity to attend this year’s World Quarter Horse Show in Oklahoma City. I saw several friends and customers and congratulations on their successes. We held a Purina ProHorse Event at AQHA Roper, Brad Lund’s stall and had a great time talking to friends and eating barbeque. Congratulations to Brad for winning the World Champion Open Heading Horse and Reserve World Champion Open Heading Horse. Also, Brad played a major role in helping the stallion, RooStar win the Super Horse Award this year. That is three Super Horse Awards in four years, that Brad has been a part of!

If any of you are looking for a deal on portable panels, you can get some 12 foot brand new Priefert Panels for a great price. The American Royal used some panels during the cutting show, and you can purchase these 12 foot Premier Panels (The Heavy Duty Ones) for $125.00 each. There is also the 50 foot round pen with a walk through gate that you can purchase for $1450. Give me a call if any of you are interested in these. You can call me at 785/418-6047 or e-mail me at ernest_rodina@purina-mills.com.

If any of you are around Lawrence, Kansas this coming weekend, you won’t want to miss the Christmas Parade with all of the horses and horse drawn vehicles. Also, many of you might be making the trip to Las Vegas to the National Finals Rodeo. I hope to see you out there.

Many of you have either received or picked up the new Better Horses Publication Winter Edition. I hope that you enjoyed reading it. Make sure you stay in touch and check out our websites at either www.betterhorsesradio.com or www.betterhorsesnetwork.com. Let me know if I can be of a help.

Happy Trails!

Ernie

FOR SALE:  12-Year-Old Barrel/Pole Gelding

Merridoc, EasyJet, Joyful Hope bred.  We bought this horse for Baylee, but he is a real push type horse and does not fit her well.  He is sound, easy to get along with, kid safe, husband safe, and you can trail ride him or practice all day and he never refuses to do it again.

We would consider trade for a more free running type horse that has got a good mind or just a good broke youngster.  Asking $4500.  Make offer or let me know what you have.  You can see him on www.barrelhorseworld.com, Ad #54563.

Horse Management Tip

Winter Skin Care
By Sally Dwyer
Seven Oaks Ranch

Most winter skin conditions result from a dirty haircoat, which gives bacteria and fungi a foothold.

Keep your horse's skin healthy by daily brushings, which in addition to lifting dirt and skin debris to the surface, it'll enable you to check the fat over his ribs, indicating weight loss, and any bumps or clumpy hair that could signal a wound or skin condition.

Horsey Treat Recipe

Stocking Stuffer Treat

2 carrots, shredded
1 apple, shredded
1/3 cup molasses
1/4 cup bran
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup regular oatmeal
2 tblsp. salt

Mix all ingredients thoroughly.  Should be thick and doughy.  Add more bran if needed.  Press onto a greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 400o for approximately 30 minutes.  Cut into bite-size pieces while still warm.

A special stocking stuffer Holiday treat . . . for that very special horse of yours!

                                                                        Planning

I know how important planning is to our success.  I'm working on putting together a personal roadmap;
hopefully, one that'll keep me from getting lost in the pot holes or stepping in the cow paddies along the way.
