Volume 5, Number 18
Good Morning!
I hope all is well with all of you. I have been very busy with this year’s
American Royal just finishing up the 2nd Annual Unbelievable Horse
Happening and the American Royal’s first Equine & Ranch Expo. It was an
unbelievable weekend with a huge success at this year’s show. We had over 3000
entries with 479 stalls rented out. My congratulations goes out to Darby Zaremba,
Raelynn Moon, Abbie Grossnicklaus, Debbie Davis, Sarah Leonhard and the rest of
the committee that made this show a huge success. The positive comments from the
kids and parents were overwhelming. It definitely was the Ultimate Open Horse
Show.
The American Royal changed the name of their trade show during the Rodeo and Unbelievable Horse Happening to the American Royal Equine & Ranch Expo. With this being the first year of putting on a strong focus to the horse, the Equine & Ranch Expo passed positive approval from many. Surrounding the Priefert Round Pen, the Equine and Ranch Expo was anchored by the first annual Colt Challenge sponsored by Boulevard Brewery. Made up of clinicians, Kerry Kuhn, Cal Noyons, and Cindy Branham, this four day event was really a crowd pleaser. I noticed throughout the four days, the bleachers were pretty much full during the clinicians time in the pen. After it came to a conclusion, Kerry Kuhn was announced as the winner, followed by Cal Noyons and Cindy Branham. It was a tough decision with all three of the clinicians doing a fine job. A big thank you goes out to Terri Delouche for planning and organizing this event.
We kept the Better Horses Radio Trailer cranked up during the Equine and Ranch Expo, interviewing clinician, contestants, and many folks. The Prairie Circuit Finals rodeo showcased three great PRCA Performances during the weekend.
Make sure you attend the President’s Cowboy Day this Saturday afternoon at Kemper Arena in Kansas City on Oct.31st during the Royal. You will have the opportunity to enjoy clinics put on by World Champions, Roy Cooper, Walt Woodard, Sherry Cervi, Larry Mahan and Gary Lefew. See the flyer inside this newsletter.
During the morning of the 31st at 9:00 am, you will have the opportunity to see a clinic put on by Clinician Curt Pate and Ron Gill on Effective Stockmanship and Stewardship. Cowdog trainer, Charlie Trayer will be there also doing a demonstration with his dogs. This will be held in Bass Arena which is directly east of the American Royal building. No cost to attend and a complimentary lunch will be served.
On Friday and Sunday afternoon in Kemper Arena this Oct.30th, and November 1st, bring the family and enjoy the CBR Championship Bull Riding.
The results we are getting with Purina Horse Feeds are second to none. Make sure you contact your local Purina dealers and give one of our feeds a try if you are not on one. You can call me at 785/418-6047.
On a sad note, we recently lost a great young man, husband, and trainer with that being Scott Janseen after fighting a tough battle with cancer. Scott and his wife run a successful training operation near Desoto, Kansas, and he will be greatly missed by many. Please keep his family in your prayers.
Let me know if I can be of any help to you. I hope to see you down the trail . . .
Happy Trails!
Ernie

Try this special Fall Treat cookie for your favorite horse -- |
Fall Treat: Carrot/Apple Horse Cookies
1 cup sweet feed
2 cups bran
1 cup flax seed
4 large carrots (shredded)
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup applesauce
Mix molasses, brown sugar, carrots and applesauce in one bowl. Mix the dry
ingredients in another bowl. Slowly combine the wet and dry mixtures
together. Add only enough wet ingredients to form a thick dough.
(Add more bran if necessary.) Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil.
Using a tablespoon, drop batter onto the cookie sheet and flatten slightly to
form portions about the size of a silver dollar. Bake at 300o
for about one hour. Flip and bake for an additional 45 minutes -- until
they are dried out. (Keep checking to make sure they don't burn.)

Values Charley Russell not only left us great living pictures of what our West was, but he left us an example of how to live in friendship with all mankind. - Will Rogers Will's quote reminded me not everyone holds the same values as he or Charley Russell did. An example is a conversation I had with one of Emporia's more infamous characters who taught me the depth of compassion and charity some have towards their fellow man. This man was always looking for a great deal in real estate. So I asked him exactly what it was he considered a great deal. "I'm looking for someone with property to sell who not only is down on his luck, but has hit britches down around his ankles. That's when I want to buy." |
