Volume 5, Number 17

Good Morning!

I apologize for getting this newsletter out to you later than normal, but I have been swamped.  It was great to see many of you at this year’s 10th Annual Dream Ride In The Flint Hills. The weather was absolutely beautiful along with the ride and experience being Unbelievable. We hope that you can join us next year.  To view some great pictures from this year's ride, Click Here.  For more photos from our September 27 Cowboy Church service, Click Here.

Part of the reason for being very busy is getting ready for this year’s American Royal. Our Unbelievable Horse Happening that will kick off on Thursday, Oct.22nd, has exploded into one of the biggest and best events at the American Royal. As of a couple of days ago, I was notified that we are up to 470 stalls and over 2500 entries. Thanks to the great team headed up by Darby Zaremba and Raelynn Moon, they have it under control.

Make sure you mark your calendars to attend the American Royal the weekend of Oct.22-25th to experience this great Western Weekend. With the weekend being headed up by two great PRCA Rodeos on Friday and Saturday night, it is surrounded by the Unbelievable Horse Happening and the American Royal’s First Annual Equine and Ranch Expo. Better Horses Radio will be at the Expo, so make sure you stop by and see us.

During the Equine and Ranch Expo, you will get the opportunity to see three equine clinicians participate in the first American Royal Colt Challenge sponsored by Boulevard Brewery.  Purina Equine Ambassador Kerry Kuhn will be working the Priefert Round Pen along with another Purina Ambassador, Cindy Branham and Cal Noyons. Along with the Colt Challenge, you can visit booths, hear entertainment and see other workshops in the Round Pen area. We still have room for a few great vendors. Email Pat Mead at the American Royal at patm@americanroyal.com for information about getting a booth.

Don’t miss the Cowboy Church at Hale Arena on Sunday, Oct.25th, in Hale Arena at the American Royal during the Unbelievable Horse Happening. Led by our friends Frank Slaughter and his Open Range Ministry, it is always a wonderful service. We hope to see you at 7:00 am -- and then experience the horse show.

Better Horses Radio continues to grow with the addition of Country Legends 92.1 FM in Fort Worth, Texas. If any of our readers in that market are interested in a great advertising package with Better Horses Network and the Texas market, get in touch with me at 785/418-6047 or email me at ernie@betterhorsesradio.com.  Don’t forget to check us out at www.betterhorsesradio.com .

Make sure you take advantage of the opportunity to try Purina Horse Feeds. You can go to www.purinadifference.com and sign up for a trial with our feeds. If you have 10 or more horses, contact me and I will get you in touch with your local Purina rep.

Also, don’t forget to ask your Purina Dealer about the Equine Senior®  promotion that is going on. Equine Senior®  is the product of choice being recommended by 4 out of 5 Veterinarians.

Don’t forget that the UHCA (Ultimate Horseman Challenge Association) and Craig Cameron’s Extreme Cowboy Race will be held next week , Oct.17 & 18, at the Saddle & Sirloin Club in Kansas City. Saddle and Sirloin Club is located at 14401 Holmes Road in south Kansas City.

Please keep my son, Luke, and all of our servicemen and servicewomen in your prayers. This week, Luke and his Marine unit were shipped out to Afghanistan for 13 months. God Bless them all!

Please let me know if myself or Better Horses can be of help to you in any way. It is you that makes my job worthwhile.

Happy Trails!

Ernie

Horse Management Tip

                   Ingested Wires Cause Colic, Adhesions

An article in the April 4th issue of theHorse.com (Your Guide to
       Equine Health Care)
covered the subject of ingesting wires and their
effect on the equine digestive system.

According to South African and American researchers who recently
published a study on the subject, this issue might even cause different
segments of the tract to fuse together, leading to painful and usually
       fatal consequences.

For more detailed information on this subject, Click Here to read
this article; and remember to always seek the advice of a qualified
veterinarian before proceeding with any diagnosis, treatment or
       therapy.

Thoughts To Ponder

                       By Charley Green

                                   Excellence

An artist friend of mine told about a personal revelation that got her out of
her lack of confidence shell and into the money.

It was all about sharing the excellence of her work with others which someone
guided her to do.  The day she found out she could sell her paintings for money
was the day she quit painting just for the fun of it.

She finally believed and realized she had a talent and a vision of what folks
wanted from her paintings.  The more she gave them, the more she got
what she wanted.  She worked at doing what she does best, and the excellence
thing just fell into place.  The proof is in the bank, and the best thing about it is
         she loves what she does!
